When to Seek Urgent Help
Most musculoskeletal problems are not emergencies. However, some symptoms need urgent medical attention rather than physiotherapy.
Call 999 or go to your nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) department if you have:
- New loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in the saddle area (between your legs)
- Sudden severe weakness or numbness in both legs
- Chest pain, severe shortness of breath, or a suspected heart attack or stroke
- A significant injury with a suspected broken bone or dislocation
- A hot, swollen, very painful joint with fever or feeling generally unwell
If you are unsure whether your symptoms are urgent, seek medical advice promptly rather than waiting for a physiotherapy appointment.
